The house is located in the city of Paphos, in the suburban area of Emba. The proposal was developed for a family of three. The land has a flat topography with a set of lemon trees, olive trees and cypress trees around its perimeter, making the house a hidden oasis, not visible from the main access road.The house is located in the city of Paphos, in the suburban area of Emba. The house is a rectangle of 8 vs. 15 meters in reinforced concrete, separated from the ground in a smooth unevenness of 0.50 meters. With a total of 120 square meters and an extended patio, the house consists of 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms and the main area of the kitchen dining and living that opens to the patio and outer garden.
Our clients asked for the house to be as simple as possible, designed in a single level and on a very specific budget. Therefore, the most challenging aspect for us was to create a place, both functional and aesthetically pleasing within the serene natural characteristics of the plot, on a very tight budget. Besides the limitation of the budget, the tight budget also meant we needed to propose a building which was both, efficient in its usage, low on maintenance but strong in presence while subtle in its integration with the surrounding area. The use of timber boarding off-shutter concrete formwork was selected in order to exploit its sculptural qualities while avoiding maintenance later in the life of the house.
